Adult Swimming Courses

Welcome to Swimly School's Adult Swimming Courses, where adults in British Columbia can elevate their swimming skills in a supportive and motivating environment. Aligned with the Swim for Life program and Lifesaving Society Canada standards, our courses empower you to swim stronger and safer.
Entry Requirements
To ensure a productive experience, participants should meet these specific benchmarks before joining:
- Basic Kicks: Mastery of Tread Water and Flutter Kick is required.
- Surface Support: Ability to maintain legs-only surface support for at least 45 seconds.
- Comfort Level: Comfort in deep water, including a Compact jump or Stride entry.
- Endurance: Ability to complete a continuous swim of at least 50 metres.
Advanced Stroke Development
Our instructors help you perfect form to reduce drag and prevent fatigue, focusing on all four competitive strokes:
- Front Crawl: Mastery of Side Breathing, Body Rotation, and Overarm Recovery.
- Back Crawl: Focus on horizontal body alignment and consistent propulsion.
- Breaststroke: Refinement of the Pull-Breathe-Kick-Stretch sequence and timing.
- Butterfly Fundamentals: Introduction to Dolphin Kick rhythm and body wave coordination.
Deep-Water Proficiency & Safety
Based on Lifesaving Society guidelines, you will gain skills to handle challenging aquatic scenarios:
- Eggbeater Kick: Developing the power to remain vertical and stable in deep water.
- Underwater Travel: Swimming 10 metres underwater to recover an object.
- Advanced Entries: Mastery of Shallow Dives, Stride Entries, and Compact Jumps.
Endurance & Interval Training
Build stamina through structured workouts aligned with Swim for Life goals:
- Interval Training: Sets such as 4 × 50 m (Front or Back Crawl) and 4 × 25 m (Breaststroke).
- Endurance Workout: Completion of a 300-metre continuous swim for sustained effort.
- Sprint Sets: High-intensity 25 m sprints for each major stroke.
Lifeguard Preparation Component
This program prepares you for advanced certifications such as Bronze Star or Bronze Medallion, building the skills and knowledge lifeguards rely on:
Rescue Techniques
- Introductory non-contact assists and safe approaches to distressed swimmers.
Surface Support Excellence
- Building the leg strength required for lifesaving carries in open water.
Water Smart Education
- Essential knowledge on buddy systems, lifejacket use, and ice safety protocols.
